Sunday Herald City2Surf 2016

The countdown is on to the world famous City2Surf – and thousands of professional athletes and weekend warriors are now in training for the world’s largest fun run. This year marks the 47th running of the event – with more than 60,000 expected to line up next Sunday, August 13.

The City2Surf from the Sydney CBD to Bondi has become one of the most loved and largest community events in the world.

It’s now widely recognised as a ‘bucket-list’ item for serious runners and adventure lovers globally. But don’t be fooled – the 14km course can be gruelling – especially in the heat. You must ensure you have sufficiently trained for the event or have allowed enough lead up time to prepare for the event and organisers warn that heat stress and exhaustion are common when competing on a hot day. They advise all entrants to be well hydrated before and during the race.

Dehydration can cause muscle cramps – often your body’s way of telling you need more water. Your body loses fluids when you work or exercise in the heat, and that can make you more likely to cramp. This may be partly because your muscles need water, but it’s also because you sweat out important minerals called electrolytes – sodium, potassium, and calcium – that help the cells in your muscles work the way they should.

What better way to stay hydrated than with a BIBO Water Bar? With a BIBO Water Bar you can fill your sports bottle with an endless supply of chilled filtered water. This cool, compact benchtop dispenser filters and purifies your tap water providing pristine chilled and boiling water at the touch of a button. BIBO uses the latest technology in multistage carbon filtration to remove tastes, odours, heavy metals, chlorine, microorganisms, and other nasties from tap water leaving the good minerals behind. It’s unique ultraviolet lamp system ensures water stays pure and fresh all the way to your sports bottle.

You can have peace of mind that the water you’re drinking is crystal clear and healthy – the perfect combination for a gruelling half-marathon! And just think of the money you’ll save on high-priced plastic bottled water, while helping to save the environment from plastic pollution.
