Sydney's water quality is under the spotlight again, in light of recent revelations that PFAS chemicals (known as 'forever chemicals') are flowing at 50 times safe standard as reported in the Sydney Morning Herald on 17th September, 2024. This follows recent reports in August and June, 2024.

The only difference is that now we've started testing."
This situation has now escalated since a Herald investigation in June revealed that no large-scale testing for PFAS in the state's drinking water was taking place. A federal parliamentary inquiry was announced in August into the health effects of PFAS and Australia's guidelines are currently under review following the US Environmental Protection Agency's recent policy shift, which deemed these chemicals probable carcinogens with no safe level of exposure.
